Gaucín, Málaga, Spain
Gaucin is ideal as a base to make excursions to western Andalusia. The Coast (Estepona, Sabanillas, Sotogrande) is 25 min. drive, Ronda is 35 min., Gibraltar & Algeciras are 1 hr. away, and Seville, Granada, Cordoba, and Cádiz are within 2 hours. Or you can just chill out, in the tranquility and authenticity of a working Spanish pueblo. The area is a paradise for hikers with many marked trails (Gran Senda de Malaga), and for birdwatchers, it is on the migratory path to Africa. The area boasts many fine restaurants, an award-winning local winery, and a goat cheese factory. At the house, there is a binder with suggestions of places to visit, including a map of Gaucin, restaurant recommendations, a hiking guide, and brochures from many of the nearby attractions.
